Security of faith

I love science, it really jives well with my OCD, and who doesn't have a touch of OCD these days? Pure science is a logical process applied to something for the purpose of uncovering an unbiased truism. The truth can then be tested in every conceivable way and become well defined. Then you really got something! Science, in its innocence, is a beautiful thing and is to be aspired to.

Unfortunately people can be better at the logical process than others, and so ensues the bitter sweet power struggle. Which brings all the fun of politics careening into the pursuit of truth. When people start lying about stuff and you get a bunch of people to agree to lie too, you have the monstrosity of popular science. Charismatic scientist can leverage their findings against ideas they deem offensive. Science and logic, like everything else, can be twisted into weapons to oppress.

I thought too highly of science coming out of high school. I had my faith, which i could defend logically fair decently... kinda. However i was scared of meeting someone who had a better argument than i did. Logic demands i would have to adopt the superior argument as my own! It was possible for some one to come and rob me of my faith.

In thinking about the armor of God and the "shield of faith" (Ephesians 6:10-18), it became clear that there is significance to faith being called a shield. A pretty stinking good one too, it extinguishes all the flaming arrows of the enemy. The very fact i believe something affords me all kinds of safety, it is no longer dependent on the obvious. This is dangerous in and of itself of course, but this is what faith is! It's believing or trusting without proof.

With the shield of faith we can engage science and logic, fearlessly growing stronger form it. If a miracle can be explained by science, there's higher miracles revealed by the explanation! After all, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands. We can exercise logic to it's fullest within our faith, we're even commanded to in  2 Timothy 2:15 and Luke 10:27

My intention in writing this is to share the bit of peace these ideas have given me. We shouldn't be fearing anything but the Lord himself.
